About your policy

You and your pet - are all these things true?

You accept:

  • that previous, existing, ongoing and recurring medical conditions and symptoms will not be covered by your Aviva pet insurance policy
  • that injuries, illnesses or diseases that occur prior to the Aviva pet insurance start date will not be covered
  • that any illnesses or diseases that occur within the first 10 days of the Aviva pet insurance start date will not be covered

Your pet:

  • is not used for any commercial, security or racing purposes (including commercial breeding)
  • does not have aggressive tendencies (dogs only)
  • has not been involved in any incidents or accidents that may give rise to any legal action against you (dogs only)
  • is not an animal which should be registered under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 or the Dangerous Dogs Act (Northern Ireland) order 1991 or any subsequent amendments

You:

  • are resident of the United Kingdom, the owner and keeper of the pet, and the pet is kept in the United Kingdom at the address you have provided

Your data

BDML Connect Limited provide, administer and arrange Aviva pet insurance policies and is a data controller for these purposes. Aviva Insurance Limited is responsible for underwriting and claims in relation to your policy and is data controller for these purposes. BDML Connect Limited or Aviva will carry out checks with external databases such as credit reference agencies and publicly available sources of information as part of this process to enable them to verify the information you provide, to assist them in providing the quote and for fraud prevention. If you have previously held a product with BDML Connect Limited or obtained a quote in the past, they may carry out checks against the data they already hold on you.

How and why we use your information

We (Aviva), and our third parties, collect and use information (including data about health and unspent offences or criminal convictions) about you and, if relevant, somebody else covered under your policy and your family.

We do this so we can:

  • verify your identity and help prevent fraud
  • calculate our risk to insure you
  • calculate your price
  • set up, assess and maintain your insurance contract with us
  • renew and make changes to your cover
  • process claims
  • carry out marketing, profiling and analytics

We share information within the Aviva Group, our reinsurers (our own insurers) and specific other organisations for these purposes.

The information comes from:

  • what you've already told us
  • data we already hold about you (including from other quotes and policies with us)
  • publicly available sources
  • other organisations we trust
  • data about your device, general location and how you interact with our website

We use automated processes to make decisions
